Jupiter is twice as massive as all the other planets of the Solar system combined. At the same time it rotates faster than any other planet - in less than 10 hours.
Its low density indicates that the planet is composed primarily of the lightest elements - hydrogen and helium. Colorful latitudinal bands, atmospheric clouds and storms illustrate Jupiter's dynamic weather systems.
The planet is well-known for The Great Red Spot, a complex storm moving in a counter-clockwise direction, across the planet. Jupiter is encircled by at least 61 satellites and a series of thin rings which makes it similar to a miniature solar system.
When viewed through a modern telescope, the flattened disk of Jupiter has a pearly color with bands of pastel browns and blues. But you will get a much better view if you download this awesome screensaver.
